Guinea has signed a $34.7 million partnership with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to boost food security and modernize the agricultural sector. The five-year agreement (2024–2028) focuses on improving agricultural governance, increasing production, and strengthening resilience among rural communities.
The program will support crop farming, livestock, fisheries, and forestry, prioritizing better irrigation, sustainable practices, and improved access to resources for farmers. Guinea has 6.2 million hectares of arable land, yet only half is cultivated. Out of 364,000 hectares with irrigation potential, just 95,000 hectares are currently equipped.
This initiative aligns with Guinea’s goal of achieving food sovereignty and transforming agriculture into a stronger driver of economic growth and rural development.
