Morocco, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched the Digital for Sustainable Development (D4SD) Hub, an initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies to support sustainable growth across Africa and the Arab States.

The hub, backed by a $38 million budget over three years, will serve as a platform to co-create, test, and scale AI-driven solutions in critical sectors including health, education, governance, and climate resilience. A strong emphasis has been placed on inclusion, with particular focus on empowering youth and women.

This initiative builds on Morocco’s national digital transformation strategy, “Digital Morocco 2030,” and follows a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year between the Moroccan government and UNDP. The agreement aligns with the country’s ambitions to position itself as a regional hub for digital innovation and responsible AI development.

By providing a collaborative space for governments, the private sector, academia, and development partners, the D4SD Hub is expected to strengthen digital public infrastructure, promote ethical AI use, and drive progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The launch in Morocco complements UNDP’s broader digital initiatives in the region, including the AI Skills Centre and GreenTech Hub at Kenya’s Konza Technopolis. These efforts reflect a growing commitment to leveraging AI and digital solutions for inclusive, sustainable development across Africa and beyond.
